Aeronautical Information Management Database

CADAS-AIMDB is COMSOFT's AIXM 5 compliant Aeronautical Database (COMSOFT Aeronautical Data Access System – Aeronautical Information Management Database). As the newest member of the successful CADAS product family it is a fully featured AIXM 5 database that implements the temporality model as defined in version 5 of AIXM. It is designed to serve as a base for integrating of AIM products and components such as electronic AIP, Charting, NOTAM Office or Briefing.

Converting from AIXM 4.5 to AIXM 5 enables data exchange with any third party tool which is capable of reading and writing AIXM. The SOA principles apply for all parts of the database architecture thus providing an open interface to clients.

The standard version of CADAS-AIMDB covers all types of features and objects defined in AIXM 5 and provides full support for extensions and meta data. Beside this basic data set, the generic design of the database allows the integration of all kinds of models that are designed around the concepts of AIXM 5 like AMXM, WXXM, etc.

For other AIM products such as electronic AIP or charting the database facilitates the storage of additional custom specific information that is not defined in AIXM 5. Custom specific information can be linked to standard AIXM 5 features using bi-directional references. All these extensions can be easily customised for any kind of AIM product by combining proprietary and standardised information.

CADAS-AIMDB provides a platform and language independent SOAP interface that handles native AIXM 5 data. The data retrieval supports temporal and geometric selection.
In addition, a standard WFS is implemented by CADAS-AIMDB. This interface provides access to the aeronautical information for all clients that comply with WFS 1.0 or 1.1 standard.

Architecture

From an overall perspective the whole CADAS-AIMDB system is split into the following layers:

Client-Interface that provides functions to access the Database from any client using the AIXM format for data exchange.
AIM-Data-Processing for performing any kind of operations on the actual AIM information (e.g. aggregating various data, representation of the data in different views etc.).
The RDBMS that actually stores all AIM information.

Consequently following a modular approach, these layers can run in a distributed setup and therefore contribute to its outstanding scalability. The CADAS-AIMDB equally performs on data sets from single countries upwards to multi-national configurations.

The system consists of COTS and OTS components. The software confirms to the latest market developments and consists of the following:

  • Operating System
  • Application Server software packages with all necessary libraries
  • Database Software
  • Application Software Packages
  • (optional) Client Software Packages
  • Test and Diagnostic Programs

The database schema supports true temporality as defined in AIXM 5 and thus enables the data fusion of static and dynamic data. This includes full support for digital NOTAMs and application specific extensions.

AIXM 5 compliant snapshots that contain both static and dynamic objects can be generated  and used by clients for enhanced functions built on top of the AIXM 5 temporality model.

The following RDBMSs are supported:

  • Oracle 11g with locator extension
  • PostgreSQL with PostGIS extension
